Regina Construction Season Passes Halfway Mark

The City of Regina continues to prepare for growth and build a more vibrant community by making significant progress during the first half of the construction season. Some construction updates are below.

Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project

The next phase is set to commence on September 3 for approximately one month. Construction will focus on water and sewer work at the Albert and Dewdney intersection. This work takes place 8.5 m or about 28 feet underground (that's the length of a Regina Transit bus!)

This phase is an important step towards completing this project and it will include the following temporary traffic changes starting September 3:

• Albert Street will be closed between 8th and 9th Avenues, including Dewdney, with minimal traffic allowed on one southbound lane.
• Dewdney Avenue will be closed from Angus Street to McIntyre Street.
• The Warehouse District is open for business during construction and will be accessible from the Broad Street side of Dewdney (parking available at Dewdney and Scarth Street in the Yards).

Advanced signage will be in place to help drivers find alternate routes and keep construction workers safe. Residents can find more information at Regina.ca/dewdney and the latest wayfinding map for Phase 1C here.

Water Network Expansion Project

Crews continue to install the water main along Ring Road, between Winnipeg and McDonald Street and between Albert and Broad Street. The Albert Street North eastbound on-ramp has been re-opened.

Southwest Sewer Upgrade Project

McCarthy Boulevard is reduced to one lane in both directions as the southbound lanes are currently closed between Dewdney Avenue and Brunskill Place while work progresses in A.E. Wilson Park. Early in September, McCarthy Boulevard will reopen.

11th Avenue Revitalization Project

The project moved into a new phase, resulting in the construction zone moving to the west. 11th Avenue remains closed between Scarth Street and Cornwall Street to accommodate SaskPower and SaskTel's work.

Mid-Year Infrastructure Updates

Investing in infrastructure helps create a vibrant community that thrives as a place to live, work and play. Key mid-season infrastructure updates include:

• 2.3 km of water mains have been replaced, in addition to 17.8 km of sewer and 2.5 km of water mains relined.
• 125 lead connections have been replaced so far this year.
• Crews have used almost 5,000 tons of asphalt for road repairs and pothole patching.
• 3.5 km of road and 6.5 km of sidewalk repairs (plus 45 new pedestrian ramps) have been completed under roadways projects.
• Several safety improvements have been initiated under the Vision Zero framework including five new school zone flashing LED signs, two traffic calming curb locations and the implementation of Regina's first Community Safety Zone in the Cathedral neighbourhood.

The City makes every effort to minimize impacts on residents through extensive planning and coordination. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting the Road Report at Regina.ca/roads and allow extra travel time, particularly as the school year begins. These road closures and restrictions will integrate directly into Waze, which populates closures onto Google Maps.
