Annual Ceremony Highlights District Youth Who Have Overcome Adversity, Are Actively Working to Make DC a Better, Safer Place

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced the 31 awardees who will be recognized at the 2024 Right Direction Awards this evening, awards that celebrate the resiliency, leadership, and achievements of District youth and emerging adults, as well as exceptional adults who support and empower them.

"So many young people in the District are doing extraordinary things, often against extraordinary odds. It's crucial that we celebrate their achievements, recognize their potential, and support them," said Attorney General Schwalb. "Our office's Right Direction Awards showcase a core group of these young changemakers, honor their resiliency and leadership, and celebrate the remarkable efforts they're taking to make DC a better place to live, work, and visit."

About the Right Direction Awards:
Tonight, we will celebrate 29 "Champions Rising to the Challenge" who have demonstrated perseverance through adversity, acted as change agents and leaders, and worked to have a positive impact on their community and improve the lives of others. Many of the young people being honored tonight have overcome significant challenges including homelessness, gun violence, and parental incarceration. We will also honor 2 adults who have made significant contributions to the empowerment, support, and advocacy of young people.

Since establishing the Right Direction Awards in 2015, the Office of the Attorney General has recognized over 220 young people as Right Direction Award recipients.
