These individuals were recognized at the 2024 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference.

Congratulations to the 2024 Superintendent and Cabinet Members of the Year! The Superintendent and Cabinet of the Year recognition programs pay tribute to the talent and vision of school district leadership in Los Angeles County. Honorees are chosen based on their leadership for learning, excellence in communication, professionalism, commitment to equity and dedicated community involvement.

These individuals were recognized at the 2024 Superintendents' Professional Collaborative Conference, held on November 8, 2024, at the Queen Mary in Long Beach.

Superintendent of the Year - Dr. Denise Jaramillo, Alhambra USD

Dr. Jaramillo's leadership has been marked by innovative solutions, strong relationships with labor organizations and a deep commitment to student well-being. Dr. Jaramillo has successfully navigated challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, by prioritizing staff and student needs and fostering a sense of community. During the pandemic, Dr. Jaramillo partnered with community organizations and leaders to provide food services and wifi mobile hotspots for students, a food pantry for families and COVID immunizations for staff and students through mobile drive-thru at AUSD schools. 

Cabinet of the Year Business/Finance - Dr. Dawnalyn Murakawa-Leopard, Manhattan Beach USD

Dr. Murakawa-Leopard has served as Deputy Superintendent in MBUSD since 2014. Her leadership related to the budget and comprehensive knowledge of state and district finances have been vital in maximizing scarce fiscal resources. Her improvements in Food and Nutrition Services have helped to ensure a sustainable and successful program, and her advancements in Information Technology have significantly enhanced the use of technology in classrooms.

Cabinet of the Year Communications - Kristine Nam, Glendale USD

Under Ms. Nam's leadership, the District has developed a robust communication strategy that includes crafting consistent messaging, managing digital content across web, email, and social media platforms and providing essential communications for the Superintendent and Board of Education. Her efforts ensure that the public remains informed about the positive developments and successes within the District.

Cabinet of the Year Education Services - Dr. Kelly King, Glendale USD

A champion for underserved communities, Dr. King has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the Character and Ethics Project and various grant-writing efforts that resulted in millions of dollars in funding for innovative educational programs. Her leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in equity, access, and family engagement, ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Cabinet of the Year Human Resources - Dr. Michele Doll, Covina-Valley USD

Dr. Doll's proactive leadership focuses on staff development and career advancement. She secured a grant to help classified employees pursue teaching credentials, enabling their transition into classroom roles. The program's success is evident in its significant uptake and the impactful opportunities it provides. Dr. Doll valued every staff member's contribution and launched an Employee of the Month Program to celebrate their hard

work. She focuses on professional development and career advancement, securing a grant to help classified employees become classroom teachers.

Cabinet of the Year Student Services - Joey Strycula, Charter Oak USD

He is passionate about Charter Oak and has dedicated his personal and professional life to making a difference in students' lives. He is a beloved administrator whose knowledge of education and the community serves him well.

Cabinet of the Year Technology - Dr. Patrick Gittisriboongul, Lynwood USD

Dr. Gittisriboongul has been responsible for setting the vision and strategic roadmap for the district's Digital Equity initiative. He provides leadership and expertise on digital learning and IT systems within Lynwood Unified. As part of these efforts, he recently spearheaded the creation of an AI Taskforce composed of district teachers, staff and administrators to help identify opportunities and strategies for integrating AI skills and technologies into classrooms.
