Microsoft Office: Handling of Microsoft Office Documents for iOS and Android

Microsoft Outlook on iOS and Android now prioritizes standalone Microsoft Office apps over the Microsoft 365 app for opening document files. With this feature update, if both the Microsoft 365 app and the standalone apps for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft PowerPoint are installed on a user's mobile device, the standalone app will be given preference for opening its respective file type over the Microsoft 365 app.

Microsoft PowerPoint: QuickStarter Feature Retires Starting November 2024

The Microsoft PowerPoint QuickStarter feature will no longer be available in Office. This feature, which was never available in PowerPoint for the web, helped users by building an outline to kickstart research on a chosen subject.

Microsoft Teams: Anonymous Users Can Now Join Watermarked Meetings

Microsoft has introduced a new feature in Teams that allows anonymous users to join meetings with watermarks enabled. This security enhancement adds a visible watermark to shared content and participants' video feeds, helping to prevent unauthorized sharing or leaking of sensitive information. The feature provides an additional layer of protection for meetings involving external participants while maintaining ease of access. This feature will be available on Windows desktop, web, Android/iOS and Teams Rooms.

Microsoft Teams: Presenter Window Enhancements While Screensharing

Microsoft Teams now offers improved presenter window functionality when screensharing. Presenters can view a more streamlined interface that provides better control over shared content, participant engagement and meeting management. The update enhances multitasking by allowing presenters to monitor chat, raised hands and participants without disrupting the flow of their presentation.

Microsoft Teams: Easily Insert Hyperlinks in Messages (December)

Microsoft Teams will soon let users easily create hyperlinks in chat and channel messages by simply selecting text and pasting a URL over it, similar to the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows, Outlook for the web, and Microsoft Loop. Teams will automatically convert the selected text into a hyperlink, removing the need to use the Insert link button or Ctrl+K shortcut.

Microsoft Teams: Start/Stop Recording on Teams Rooms on Windows (January 2025)

When attending a meeting using a Teams Rooms on Windows device, users can now start or stop recording without having to join on their companion device. The start/stop recording button will be available on the Teams Rooms on Windows device for all in-tenant meetings. This feature requires the Teams Rooms Pro license.

Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook: Name Pronunciation on the Profile Card (January 2025)

A name pronunciation feature is coming to Microsoft Teams and Outlook, enabling users to record and share the pronunciation of their names on their profile cards. This addition fosters inclusiveness and diversity by providing colleagues with helpful information to address each other correctly.

Microsoft Teams: The New Streamlined Chat and Channels Experience (January 2025)

The new experience consolidates chats, teams and channels into a single chat view, enabling users to navigate all conversations without switching contexts. By default, users start in the combined Chat view but can choose to keep chats separate from teams and channels, as before.

Within the chat view, sections are displayed in the following order:

  1. Favorites: Includes any previously pinned chats and channels.
  2. Chats: Sorted by the most recent activity.
  3. Teams and Channels: Organized in the same order as in the Teams view.

Additionally, users can create custom sections to organize projects and topics, allowing for a mix of individual, group, meeting chats and channels.
