City of Cedar Rapids Welcomes New Public Works Director

The City of Cedar Rapids has named Brenna Fall as its new Public Works Director, effective Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

In her new role, Fall oversees engineering, traffic, streets, real estate, sewer conveyance, and department administration. Her work will include developing and implementing capital improvement and maintenance programs for a significant portion of the City's public infrastructure, managing a large annual budget, and coordinating with incident management teams on services and response activities during emergencies.

Previously serving as Assistant Public Works Director, City Engineer, and Capital Improvement Program Manager with the City, Fall has played a significant role in advancing the City's capital improvement and maintenance programs. Her past engineering experience includes program management and consulting engineer work at Snyder & Associates, Inc. - a regional engineering consulting firm - where she focused on transportation projects, including roadway widening, reconstruction, and developing regional recreational trail systems.

"We are proud to welcome Brenna into her new role as the leader of our Public Works Department," said City Manager Jeff Pomeranz. "We are confident in her ability to lead a strong team dedicated to improving public infrastructure and quality of life. As Cedar Rapids continues to grow, Brenna's expertise will strengthen our efforts to build a sustainable and thriving community for people and businesses, now and for the next generation."

Fall grew up north of Marion and graduated from the Linn-Mar Community School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in Iowa and a member of the American Public Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, and Iowa Engineering Society, where she served as president of the Herbert Hoover Chapter. She was recognized as the Iowa Engineering Society Central Chapter's Outstanding Young Engineer in 2011.

"I am honored to lead the Public Works Department during this period of record-breaking growth and public infrastructure investment," said Fall. "With our accredited agency status, one of only four in Iowa, and a dedicated team, we have a solid foundation to build upon. The department's nearly 200 employees inspire me every day with their pride and commitment to the transformative improvements we are making for our community. I am also excited to join the City's executive leadership team and contribute to our shared vision for Cedar Rapids' future."

Fall and her husband have two boys who attend school in the College Community School District.
