BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Honoring the artistry, activism and presence of Native American artists, the Bowling Green State University In the Round speaker series continues this fall with a free, public performance and talk by celebrated storyteller, educator, and hoop and powwow dancer James Jones at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, in the Donnell Theatre at the Wolfe Center for the Arts.

As a member of the Tall Cree First Nation in Northern Alberta, Canada, Jones uses his voice to educate and spread awareness on the issues impacting Indigenous communities across the globe. As a traditional hoop and powwow dancer, performance artist, youth workshop facilitator and public speaker, Jones - also known as Notorious Cree - advocates to inspire future generations by reclaiming his culture and encouraging others to do the same.

Jones gained a following through his social media videos of cultural dancing in full Indigenous regalia. His videos have garnered millions of followers on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. Using his artistry to share his culture, Jones has performed at international events, including the Winter Olympics, Pan Am Games and Coachella.

Supporting inclusion and belonging, the BGSU In the Round series features Native American creatives who work in the areas of fine art, graphic design, music, creative writing, film and theater. The series also aims to better inform others about Native American culture and history by highlighting artists' works and techniques through experiences and world views.

Individuals living with disabilities who require special services or modifications should contact Accessibility Services at 419-372-7495 prior to the event.
