ANSBACH, Germany (August 8, 2024) - Many military families start their career single or newlywed. And they may move into their first Army Family Housing unit struggling to fill the place with furniture. As the family grows so does its belongings and soon the storage area is full of toys, seasonal decorations, sports equipment and alike. Where do you store the things you own, but only need occasionally?

The United States Army Garrison (USAG) Ansbach Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) has announced the availability of new storage units at Urlas Kaserne. The units were made possible through the Capital Purchase and Minor Construction (CPMC) program, with assistance from the local Department of Public Works (DPW) for site preparation. The response to a long-expressed need within the USAG Ansbach community.

Ryan Moran, Business and Recreation Division Chief of DFMWR emphasized the importance of community involvement in MWR facilities: "CMPC projects relate directly to revenue generated in the garrison through MWR programs and services. When community members utilize their MWR programs, it can benefit them through these types of local reinvestment projects."

Located adjacent to Brainard Hall, the Army lodging on Urlas Kaserne, the storage units offer a convenient solution for those seeking additional space for their belongings. The units can be rented through the Family and MWR Automotive Skills Center on Urlas Kaserne Each of the 30 units provides 24/7 access, with dimensions measuring 5.7 meters long, 2.8 meters wide, and 2.2 meters high (or 18.7 feet long, 9.1 feet wide, and 7.2 feet high), offering approximately 35 cubic meters (1,236 cubic feet) of basic storage space.

Some storage restrictions do apply. The following is prohibited: illegal items (e.g., guns, ammunition, explosives), food, liquids, oils, fuel or other flammable liquids, combustible materials, corrosives, hazardous or toxic materials, toxic waste, animals, people, or trash.

Moran expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility: "The project was submitted several years ago, knowing that there is a need for extra storage space for many community members. We are excited it finally came through this year and we were able to complete it in such a short time."

To ensure everyone has an equal chance to rent a storage unit, DFMWR has initiated a digital sign-up tool. Authorized patrons can register for a chance to rent available units through the provided link or by scanning the QR code from a mobile device. The drawing for units will take place as they become available for use.

An information table will be available at the USAG Ansbach Community Showcase on Friday, August 16th from 1100-1630 at the Katterbach Fitness Center on Katterbach Kaserne. For more detailed information on registration and to sign up, visit the MWR website or contact the Automotive Skills Center directly. https://ansbach.armymwr.com/programs/storage-units
