UPDATE: Man Killed in Stabbing Identified

The man killed in a stabbing in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood on July 15, 2024, has been identified as Kenny L. Housman, 73, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death.

The Medical Examiner determined Housman died of homicide by stab wound.

The individual detained at the scene has been released from police custody. This person has not been charged with a crime and is cooperating with detectives.

A man has been stabbed and killed in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

On Monday, July 15, 2024, at 12:30 a.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the intersection of Southeast 136th Avenue and Southeast Clinton Street on reports of a person stabbed. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he died.

A suspect has been detained.

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives are responding to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective J.D. McGuire at [email protected] or Detective Brent Christensen at [email protected]. Please reference case number 24-175978.

During the investigation, Southeast Clinton Street will be closed between Southeast 136th Avenue and Southeast 137th Avenue. Additionally, Southeast 136th Avenue will be closed between Southeast Division Street and just south of Southeast Clinton Street.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
