At the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) convention in Denver, the Third Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation captured ICRI's 2024 Repair Project of the Year Award and the ICRI 2024 Award of Excellence in the Historic Structures category.
Started in 2017 and completed in 2023, the rehabilitation of the Third Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis stands out for its immense scale, the bridge's one-of-a-kind historic concrete arch construction, the unusual composition and severe deterioration of the original 100-year-old concrete, and the innovative methods that were used to repair the concrete to extend the bridge's life for another fifty years.
We performed a comprehensive bridge inspection and condition assessment, field and laboratory material testing, service life analysis, rehabilitation alternatives study, and repair and rehabilitation design. We were then the engineer of record (EOR) for concrete repair design as the subconsultant to HNTB, who was the prime consultant and the EOR for the new bridge design.
Previously, the ICRI Chicago chapter recognized the Third Avenue Bridge rehabilitation with its 2024 Project of the Year Award.
