Inmate Returned To Department Of Corrections Custody Following Incident At State Office Complex

CONCORD, N.H. - An inmate has been returned to the custody of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections following an incident on the campus of the State Office Complex.

At 3:02 p.m. today, Aug. 6, 2024, State Troopers responded to 127 Pleasant Street in Concord for the report of a subject barricaded inside a room and armed with a knife. The subject was identified as Tad Emerson, 33, a minimum-security resident in a work program at the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.

Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU) attempted to negotiate with Emerson for approximately five hours before he was taken into custody and returned to the New Hampshire State Prison for Men.

During the incident, residents and employees of the State Office Complex were asked to avoid the area until the situation was resolved.

Emerson has been charged with being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned at a later date.
