City of Corpus Christi Provides Update on Grass Fire Near HWY 361

Corpus Christi, TX - The City of Corpus Christi is actively working a slow-moving grass fire that has affected the beach area adjacent to Highway 361, between Newport Pass and Zahn Road. The fire has burned approximately 60 acres and is currently 80% contained. No structures are in danger, and there have been no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The fire continues to burn slowly southeast toward Newport Pass. Due to marshy conditions, the area is inaccessible, which complicates firefighting efforts. The fire is expected to burn for approximately six more hours, with final acreage burned anticipated to be between 90 and 100 acres.

A change in wind direction is expected around 1:00 p.m. today but is not projected to have a significant impact on the fire's behavior.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

For safety and to facilitate firefighting operations, HWY 361 between Newport Pass and Zahn Road has been closed until further notice. The City of Corpus Christi advises residents and travelers to avoid the area and to use alternative routes.
