The Northwest Community Center will be renamed to honor Fort Worth's longest-serving mayor, Betsy Price.
The community center, currently under construction and expected to open in January, is located in Northwest Community Park, 8375 Blue Mound Road.
The 25,000-square-foot center includes a gymnasium, fitness equipment and meeting rooms.
City Council voted Tuesday evening to name the building Betsy Price Community Center.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to have the Northwest Community Center named in my honor," Price said. "I hope this new center becomes a vibrant hub for our community - fostering a sense of belonging, prioritizing health and wellness, and reflecting the values that make Fort Worth extraordinary. As a longtime advocate for our parks, trails and the Blue Zones initiative, I am thrilled to see a space dedicated to inspiring healthy living and bringing neighbors together for years to come. Thank you to the City Council, the Park & Recreation Advisory Board, and the residents of Fort Worth for this incredible recognition."
Former Mayor Price was the longest serving mayor of Fort Worth, serving from 2011-2021. Price was an avid advocate of the park and trail system and was instrumental in making Fort Worth a Blue Zones city.
On Nov. 20, the Park & Recreation Advisory Board voted in favor of the renaming.
