Margaretville man charged after swerving vehicle and yelling bias...

On July 30, 2024, at approximately 12:23 a.m., New York State Police arrested Joseph E. VanBlarcom, age 20 of Margaretville, NY for the class "C" felony of Reckless Endangerment as a Hate Crime and the misdemeanor of Aggravated Harassment in the second degree.

On July 29, 2024, at approximately 4:13 p.m., Troopers from SP Margaretville and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Oneonta responded to a Jewish Synagogue on Main Street in the village of Fleishmanns. Troopers from SP Liberty assisted in the investigation.

Ultimately, an investigation determined that VanBlarcom threw objects and recklessly swerved his vehicle at three Jewish men while yelling bias obscenities.

VanBlarcom was processed and transported to the Delaware County Correction Facility for Centralized Arraignment and Processing.
