Guilford County man charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense

RALEIGH
Oct 30, 2024

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Blair Terell Lofton, 29, of 3235 Pleasant Garden Road, Greensboro. Lofton was charged with insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division, Lofton attempted to obtain $13,120 in lost wages from Integon Indemnity Corporation by submitting a false wage verification form stating that he had worked at AML Ventures at the time of a motor vehicle accident. Lofton was employed temporarily at AML in 2018, but not during the time of the accident.

The incident occurred on Nov. 4, 2022, according to the arrest warrants.

Lofton was arrested in Mecklenburg County on Oct. 27 and released on a $5,000 secured bond. He is set to appear in Guilford County Court on Nov. 12.

"Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet," Commissioner Causey said. "Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I'm fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina."

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may anonymously report fraud by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
