Stephen Rademaker Named American Lawyer Attorney of the Year Finalist

WASHINGTON-The American Lawyer has shortlisted Stephen Rademaker as a finalist for the "Attorney of the Year" award at the annual "American Lawyer Industry Awards" for his "work in helping free and return to the U.S. journalists detained in Russia."

With wide-ranging experience working on national security issues in the White House, the State Department, and the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Stephen helps clients navigate international policy, sanctions, and CFIUS challenges.

Stephen led a Covington team that worked with the U.S.-funded media outlet Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty to help secure the release of one of its journalists, Alsu Kurmasheva, who was one of 16 people released as part of the prisoner exchange with Russia. Covington began working on a pro-bono basis to free Kurmasheva in November 2023, engaging with the State Department and other Biden administration officials, as well as members of Congress, to raise the profile of her wrongful detention and advocate for her release.

The American Lawyer's Industry Awards finalists will be honored and winners announced on November 13, 2024.
