GPD Proposes Using Grant to Enhance Officer Safety and Operational Efficiency

The Greenville Police Department (GPD) is eligible to receive $34,438 from the U.S. Department of Justice through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). The JAG program is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions, and funds can be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance and information systems for criminal justice.

GPD is proposing the JAG grant be used to replace aging communications equipment and accessories for its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and to purchase a new electronic key control system for police department facilities for asset management.

The project narrative (PDF) is available for review, and GPD welcomes public comment on the proposed use of the JAG grant. Comments must be submitted to Captain Mike Yearout at [email protected] or mailed to P.O. Box 2207, Attn: Captain Mike Yearout, Greenville, SC 29602 before Monday, November 11, 2024.
