Rep. Courtney Announces New, Additional Funding for Virginia Class Submarine Construction

NORWICH, CT - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after the Navy released $376,788,600 to Electric Boat to advance the Virginia class submarine program. As then-Chairman and now Ranking Member of the Seapower Subcommittee, Courtney authorized this funding through the FY21 through FY24 National Defense Authorization Acts.

"Electric Boat's new $376 million contract, coupled with its record large workforce, continues the strong momentum to build a stronger, larger fleet of Virginia class submarines. This federal funding, which was authorized by the Seapower Subcommittee, will also support research and design of advanced capabilities on future generations of attack submarines to ensure our Navy maintains its undersea superiority. The award also serves as a testament to the outstanding shipbuilders and their track record of excellence on our submarine programs."
