LTA Awards Civil Contract for Design and Construction of CRL Jurong Lake District Station and Tunnels under the Cross Island Line Phase 2

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil contract for the design and construction of CR19 Jurong Lake District station (working name) and tunnels under the Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2 to KTC Civil Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd. The contract is valued at around S$590 million.

2. KTC Civil Engineering & Construction is an established local company with extensive experience in infrastructure projects in Singapore. The company previously constructed Tampines interchange station on the Downtown Line and Orchard Boulevard station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). It is currently involved in the construction of CRL Maju station and TEL Sungei Bedok station.
Engineering Highlights

3. CR19 is an underground station located within the upcoming Jurong Lake District hub. The construction of the station involves deep excavation works near the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE). Before commencing excavation and construction of the station, earth retaining and stabilising structures will be installed to ensure safety and ground stability. LTA and the contractors will monitor the construction works closely and implement necessary mitigation measures to ensure safe construction with minimal impact to nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.

4. Construction works are expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2024 and passenger service for CRL Phase 2 is targeted to commence in 2032.
About the CRL

5. The CRL is Singapore's eighth MRT line. It will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors, linking major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region. The CRL will have almost half of its stations as interchanges with other rail lines, making it easier and more convenient for commuters to travel across the rail network.

6. The fully underground CRL will be constructed in three phases. Announced in 2019, CRL Phase 1 is 29 kilometres long, and comprises 12 stations. Construction works have commenced and are expected to complete by 2030. CRL Phase 2, announced in September 2022, is approximately 15 kilometres and comprises six underground stations. Engineering studies for the CRL Phase 3 are ongoing and more details will be announced after these studies are completed.
