Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro released a statement in response to news that New Haven Alder Tom Ficklin had passed away:

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, Alder Tom Ficklin. Tom has been a pillar in our community for over 50 years. He was a champion for truth and justice.

"He always believed in the power of community engagement and participation. Through his work in the press, both as Editor-in-Chief of Inner City News and as a host on WNHH, Tom provided a platform for countless voices - many that usually went unheard. His work always demonstrated his unwavering commitment to our city's future.

"Tom's warmth, sincerity, and dedication to New Haven was unparalleled, and he was a personal friend and inspiration to so many of us. New Haven has lost a guiding light, but his spirit and impact will continue to inspire us for generations to come. I am praying for his wife Julia, his family, and all those who loved him."
