Sacramento Fire Department offers free ‘Fire Camp’ for girls Sept. 21-22

The Sacramento Fire Department will host its fifth annual Sacramento Area Girls Fire Camp on Sept. 21-22 at the Sacramento Fire Academy in McClellan Park.

This free two-day event is open to teens in grades 9 through 12 and is led by professional women firefighters.

"The Sacramento Area Girls Fire Camp is an incredible opportunity for young women to build confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills, all while learning about the rewarding career of firefighting," said Sacramento Fire Assistant Chief Kim Iannucci.

Participants will engage in hands-on training, including search and rescue, first aid and CPR, and hose and fire stream management. Beyond acquiring firefighting skills, campers will develop leadership abilities and enhance their understanding of public safety.

"We want every camper to leave feeling empowered and inspired to pursue their passions, whether in firefighting or any other field," said Iannucci.

T-shirts, breakfast, and lunch will be provided at the event.

The Sacramento Fire Department employs an inclusive definition of "girls" to include female-identifying, transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals.

Early registration is recommended as space is limited.
