Victims of sexual assault don't always get the support they need, so the Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) Foundation is doing its part to change that. The NGHS Foundation's annual Medical Center Open golf tournament, presented by Bank of America as Premier Sponsor, and played at Chicopee Woods Golf Course last week, raised more than $300,000 to benefit Bridging Hope - an organization supporting victims of sexual assault.

Bridging Hope, formerly known as Rape Response, provides support, education and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and their families. The organization also providesforensic exams for victims of sexual assault visiting one of our Northeast Georgia Medical Center emergency departments. At a pre-tournament reception for sponsors and committee members, the organization announced the decision to change its name, signaling a new chapter in its mission.

"Our new name reflects where we are as an organization - we connect survivors with the help they need and guide them from dark times to better days," said Jen Tarnowski, executive director of Bridging Hope. "It's more than just a new look, it's a promise to bring hope and create a world where everyone who's been hurt feels cared for, heard, and empowered."

The tournament drew 200 golfers, 120 sponsors and dozens of volunteers.

"It's inspiring to see so many people come together for such an important cause," said David Lee, the event chair. "The success of this event shows how much our community values supporting organizations like Bridging Hope."

The winning team was from Jake Martin & Son, and included Walt Booth, Jake Martin, Eric Olsteen and Lee Towns.

"Nobody should go through the kind of trauma these victims experience alone," said Neal Booth, event co-chair. "We are grateful for those who supported this incredible organization through the Medical Center Open this year."
