Gregg Kendrick named Vanderbilt’s new chief information security officer

Vanderbilt University Information Technology has announced Gregg R. Kendrick as the university's new chief information security officer. As CISO at Vanderbilt, Kendrick will lead the initiatives to protect institutional data, enhance cybersecurity measures and foster a culture of security awareness across the university community.

Kendrick's extensive expertise in cybersecurity and IT leadership will be instrumental in navigating the evolving challenges of information security. Most recently he was CISO with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His distinguished career also includes high-profile roles such as his appointment to the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service, Naval Intelligence, where he was the executive director of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command, and his appointment as deputy director of the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, and with U.S. Cyber Command, among other duties.

Kendrick earned a master's in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University and completed the prestigious Seminar XXI program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His career began with the U.S. Marine Corps as an artilleryman, where he earned qualifications in information operations and special technical operations and became a joint qualified officer. His service includes deployments in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm, Restore/Uphold Democracy, Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom. He retired from active duty in November 2009.
