Chinese military hosts "China Day" event in Brasilia

BRASILIA, Sept. 25 -- An international communication delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) hosted a "China Day" event at the Higher School of Defense of Brazil in Brasilia on Monday. More than 300 personnel, including senior officers of the Ministry of Defense, Army, Navy, Air Force and the Department of Federal Police of Brazil, Brazilian experts and scholars, foreign military attachés in Brasilia and journalists from various countries, and representatives from the Chinese embassy took part in the event.

The event, under the theme of safeguarding peace for a shared future, is an important activity of the Chinese Military Culture Week (CMCW), aiming to enhance strategic mutual trust and traditional friendship between the two militaries and step up cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries.

Major General Mao Naiguo, head of the PLA delegation, said in his speech that as an important part of bilateral relations, military exchanges between China and Brazil have deepened and expanded in recent years, with continuous cooperation in high-level interactions, joint exercises and training, and personnel training. China is willing to work with Brazil to jointly strive for a more harmonious and beautiful world.

Major Brigadier Medica Carla Lyrio Martins, president of the Higher School of Defense of Brazil, said that the Higher School hopes to further enhance academic exchanges with relevant institutions of the Chinese military and better promote cooperation between the two sides in national defense and security.

After the opening ceremony, the participants toured a photograph show themed "CPLA (Chinese People's Liberation Army): A Force for World Peace." Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian delivered a keynote speech on China's national defense policy in the new era and answered questions. The expert group of the delegation held dialogues and exchanges with scholars from Brazilian military and local strategic think tanks on the topics of global security and the military responsibilities of major powers. A Chinese military band held a joint performance with the Presidential Guard Battalion of Brazil. Besides, calligraphy and painting artists exchanged ideas and demonstrated Chinese calligraphy art on the spot.

After the event, the Chinese PLA International Communication Delegation will go to Rio de Janeiro, the next stop of the Chinese Military Culture Week.
