Security and Stability Advisory Committee: A Year of Progress and OpennessRam Mohan

The Security and Stability Advisory Committee's (SSAC) annual workshop in Washington, D.C., marked a significant milestone: its first-ever open session. This highlighted the committee's commitment to transparency and collaboration within the ICANN community.

Since its inception in 2002, the SSAC has served as a trusted source of technical and security advice. In 2024, we expanded our membership to include a diverse range of global experts, strengthening our ability to address the most pressing Domain Name System (DNS) challenges.

Workshop Highlights

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and DNS Threats: A deep dive into the evolving landscape of AI-driven threats and countermeasures.

Quantum Technologies: Exploring the implications of quantum networking and quantum cryptography on future Internet infrastructure.

Blockchain and DNS: A panel discussion featuring experts from Ethereum Foundation, D3, ChainSafe, Verisign, and ICANN, examining potential synergies and challenges.

AI and Trust: Author and scientist Bruce Schneier spoke on emerging issues with AI and trust.

The evolution of the Internet namespace is an area of significant interest for the SSAC.

Recognizing Achievements and Departures:

The SSAC acknowledged the outstanding work of its members who contributed to three impactful reports this year: DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) Automation, Name Collision Analysis, and Registrar Nameserver Management. We also bid farewell to several members as they embark on new career endeavors.

Looking Ahead: Continued Innovation and Engagement

The SSAC remains dedicated to addressing critical Internet security and stability issues. At ICANN81 in Istanbul, we will host a series of open speaker sessions and an open mic event to foster community engagement and knowledge sharing.
