Notable Trends

  • Officers arrested suspects in two of the five aggravated assaults reported this week. One case is still an open investigation. In one arrest, the suspect rear-ended the victim's vehicle after they stopped for a pedestrian. When the victim pulled over to exchange info, the suspect exited his car with an axe and started hitting the victim's driver's side window with it. The victim fled and the suspect was later located and arrested by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office. In the second arrest, the suspect tried to run two victims over with his car. Charges were referred to the prosecutor on a suspect who broke the victim's finger. In the last case, the victim was punched and pepper sprayed by two men and a woman.
  • Only two auto thefts reported this week. In one case, a 2014 Hyundai was recovered before the victim knew it was stolen. A witness reported a suspicious vehicle that was parked, running, with its windows down and lights and wipers on, but no one inside. We still have free steering wheel locks for Hyundai owners available in our lobby at City Hall. The other car was a 1999 Subaru Legacy and was recovered by Lacey PD.
  • Two commercial burglaries this week with one arrest. In the arrest, a witness saw the suspect break a window to a business on his security camera. The suspect was hiding from officers across the street when they arrived. The suspect hadn't gained entry to the building yet and nothing was stolen. In the other case, the suspect cut the fence to a secured property and prowled a work vehicle, stealing copper wire, tools, the vehicle's keys and a gas card.
  • Fourteen vehicle prowls or vandalisms this week. In one case, the victim followed the suspect who was later identified after being involved in a separate case. It is unknown how the suspect entered the vehicle and charges are referred to the prosecutor. Laptops were stolen in four cases. Other property stolen included suitcases, army gear, registration, clothing and a drone.
