The New York Times Communities Fund launches its 113th Annual Campaign Today, November 21, 2024

Since its founding in 1911 by then Times publisher, Adolph Ochs, the Fund, formerly known as The Neediest Cases Fund, has raised over $330 million to help lift the circumstances of people in the various communities The Times serves. It was one of the first programs of its kind that used journalism to encourage readers to help their neighbors in need and offered a direct path to donate.

The Communities Fund is an independent nonprofit that is fully supported by The New York Times Company, which pays all of its administrative costs. One hundred percent of donations go directly to assist people in need.

For the 2024-25 campaign, The Fund is working with nine nonprofits: Hispanic Federation; Per Scholas; Children's Aid; OneGoal; Feeding America; Catholic Charities of New York; UJA-Federation of New York; CAMFED and First Book. Here are some of the ways a donation of any amount can make a meaningful difference:

  • $1 helps Feeding America secure and distribute at least 10 nutritious meals for families, children and seniors facing hunger
  • $25 provides a vision screening and free glasses to a student in need at a Children's Aid community school.
  • $150 can fund a girl's education in rural Africa for one year through CAMFED
  • $700 funds one learner's rigorous, tuition-free technology training through Per Scholas
  • $1,500 provides a young person with a year of instruction, advising and support via OneGoal's proven program to dramatically increase postsecondary success.
