SIU to host Job and Internship Fair Sept. 17; businesses and students can sign up now

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting its fall 2024 Job and Internship Fair to connect Salukis with career and internship opportunities on Sept. 17.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms, and businesses can still register.

Open to all companies

The event assists businesses and university departments in identifying and hiring qualified people for full-time or part-time positions, internships, graduate school or fellowships. Any business, whether in the private or public sector, that is interested in hiring SIU students is welcome. Register at siu.joinhandshake.com.

Organizers encourage businesses to register by Sept. 6 to be included on the employer list, which so far has more than 150 organizations. Additional information, including pricing, can be found on the job and internship fair webpage.

In addition, SIU campus departments, colleges, schools or units that are seeking interns can participate at no cost. They are asked to register soon as well.

Students participate for free

Undergraduate and graduate SIU students from all majors are welcome to participate in the fair at no cost. Students can preregister and view a list of participating employers in Handshake. The Career Development Center also offers students assistance with preparing for interviews and writing resumes and cover letters by appointment through Handshake or by calling 618-453-2391. Students can also obtain professional clothing there to wear to the career fair and to interviews.
