Durbin Duckworth Announce $31.9 Million In Federal Funding For Low Carbon Construction Materials

WASHINGTON ? U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $31,933,577 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Fiscal Year 2022 Low Carbon Transportation Materials Grants Program. Administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Illinois Department of Transportation will receive this federal funding to implement and use low carbon materials on Federal-aid construction projects statewide.

"As Illinois continues to modernize our transportation infrastructure, we must transition to cleaner construction materials," said Durbin. "Today's announced funding will spur transportation projects, reduce carbon pollution, and create sustainable jobs for Illinoisans."

"Investing in cleaner, lower carbon construction materials is critically important," Duckworth said. "From creating good-paying, local jobs to increasing sustainability, I'm proud to see this federal funding coming to Illinois to support infrastructure modernization projects while we work to reduce pollution."

The Low Carbon Transportation Materials Grants program is one of three new programs at FHWA created by the Inflation Reduction Act, which Durbin and Duckworth worked to pass.
