Help us reduce derelict land in North Ayrshire

Posted on 4 Aug 2022

LOCAL people are being asked for their views on how best to reduce the amount of derelict land in North Ayrshire.

The local authority is already taking strides in helping landowners and community groups transform unkempt lands.

The Vacant and Derelict Land Fund has provided much-needed funds to bring land back to use, this includes sites at Quarry Road and Kyle Road, Irvine.

And the Council is now looking to engage further and have launched a consultation to seek further input.

This will inform the latest Vacant and Derelict Strategy which will guide Council policy over the coming years.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member of Climate Change and Economy, said: "We are undertaking a great deal of work to try and bring land back to use and we hope to see a lot of tangible evidence of this over the coming months and years.

"But we recognise that there is still much more to do as derelict land can be a real blight on our communities. We are looking for input from local residents to hear their views on the situation.

"It is important we hear from a variety of different voices such as landowners or neighbouring properties to get a flavour of what people feel needs to be done."

The consultation is live on the Community Planning Partnership (CPP) website until 28th August 2022. This provides further information, the consultation slides and comments form. An interactive map has also been produced that details the current sites that are registered by Scottish Government as vacant or derelict.

A series of in person consultation events will take place in the coming months to inform the refreshed Strategy. We will share further information on these on the CPP website and with you in the near future.
