NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for December 1-7, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of December 1-7, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

• On December 5, the NOPD arrested Darrell Fairley Jr. (black male, DOB: 05-12-2006) and Cornelius G. Tillman (black male, DOB: 12-28-2004) in its investigation of a double homicide that occurred on November 30, 2024, in the 6700 block of Tara Lane. Both suspects were booked on two counts of second-degree murder.
• On December 6, the NOPD and its law enforcement partners arrested Curtis J. Gray (black male, DOB; 08-04-2005) in the investigation of a November 17 homicide that occurred on the Almonaster Avenue overpass at Florida Avenue. Gray was arrested in Jefferson Parish with assistance from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Assisting NOPD Homicide Section detectives in this operation were Louisiana State Police, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the FBI, the ATF and NOPD Violent Crime Abatement and Investigative Team. Gray was booked into the Jefferson Parish Detention Center as a fugitive from Orleans Parish on two counts of second-degree murder.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 405 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 44-percent decrease compared to 726 arrests made during the same period in 2023.

Gun seizures

Additionally, as of December 2, the NOPD in 2024 had seized 2,047 firearms in criminal investigations, a 22-percent decrease compared to 2,653 such seizures made during the same period in 2023.
