Israel/Palestinian Territories Q&A Extract from the press briefing (11 September 2024)

Q: Do you have any comment on the strike against Khan Younis?

A: France condemns Israel's September 9th strike against the humanitarian zone of al-Mawasi near Khan Younis, an area designated as "safe" by the Israeli army. That strike, which resulted in a large number of civilian casualties, further increases the catastrophic death toll among Gaza's civilian population.

France stresses that respecting international humanitarian law is incumbent upon everyone. We call on the State of Israel to take all necessary measures to guarantee the protection of civilian populations and scrupulously respect international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.

In light of the humanitarian emergency in Gaza, France reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire to allow for the immediate release of all hostages and unhindered access to humanitarian aid for all Gaza residents, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions 2712 and 2720.
