CEI President and CEO Kent Lassman reacts to assassination attempt in Pennsylvania

A would-be assassin fired several rounds at former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The shots killed a man attending the rally and wounded the former president and other rally attendees.

CEI President and CEO Kent Lassman reacted to the tragic events:

"The peaceful exchange of ideas is the taproot of natural liberty. The attempted assassination of former President Trump is the latest escalation of violence that puts our country at risk and on a path to catastrophe. In this moment, we must all commit to open, honest, and respectful debate about the policies and institutions that shape public life."
