Groundbreaking for Project Restore A2, large-scale infrastructure project for Drummond Park

The City of Panama City held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for Project Restore A2 on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, marking the beginning of a large-scale infrastructure project for the Drummond Park area. The project consists of repairing or replacing approximately three miles of damaged sanitary sewer lines, 2.42 miles of stormwater lines and 2.42 miles of water main lines. This project is being funded by HUD Exchange - Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. Extreme Land Clearing and Excavation will be working the project, and the project's scheduled completion time is September 2025.

The existing water, sewer, and storm drainage systems have been in service for many years and have almost reached the end of their economic life. Hurricane Michael caused the system's remaining economic life to be severely depleted. Potable water lines, sanitary sewer lines, and some of the stormwater pipes will be replaced and upsized to eight-inch PVC pipes under this project's scope. In addition to these replacements, almost all roads within the project boundaries will either be milled and resurfaced or reconstructed. There will be new fire hydrants and some new sidewalks, too.

When the project is completed, the potable water system pressure in the area will increase and the fire flow capacity of the system will also increase. Problems that may arise from the current condition of the sewerage system will be prevented for many years with the new sewerage system.

In general terms, with the improvements to be made in the stormwater drainage system, possible flooding that may occur in the region due to the condition of the existing stormwater drainage system will be prevented.

The City has assigned a community liaison to the project, giving residents a point of contact for construction issues. Contact: [email protected]
