Congresswoman Wild Receives “HERO Award” from PA Alliance for Retired Americans for 100% Pro-Retiree Voting Record

August 20, 2024

On August 8th, the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans presented Congresswoman Susan Wild with their "HERO Award," recognizing her unwavering commitment to seniors in Pennsylvania and across the country. The organization - which represents over 350,000 seniors in the Keystone State - highlighted the Congresswoman's robust record of protecting Social Security benefits, expanding access to Medicare, and advocating for the interests of seniors at a local, state, and national level.

"Social Security and Medicare are essential programs that provide a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable populations across our country," saidCongresswoman Wild. "These are not just benefits that are owed, these are benefits that are earned, and I will continue to stand up against extreme attacks that threaten to gut any programs that allow our seniors to retire with dignity and respect."

"Congresswoman Wild's votes prove that she looks out for all seniors, especially Pennsylvanians, with her votes in Washington," said Jody Weinreich, Vice President of the Pennsylvania Alliance. "Her dedication to preserving and expanding Social Security and Medicare will help ensure these programs will be around for current and future generations."

"Time and again HER vote was critical to our retirement security. Thanks to her, seniors are paying less for prescription drugs today, and those prices are going to go down even more next year," Weinreich added. "She has earned our trust."

Throughout her time in Congress, Rep. Wild has been a consistent advocate for Pennsylvania's senior community. She has taken every opportunity to stand up to politicians that threaten seniors' hard-earned benefits, and has opposed every attempt to cut funding for programs like Social Security and Medicare. Most recently, she introduced the Surviving Widow(er) Income Fair Treatment (SWIFT) Act, which would ensure that surviving widows and widowers of Social Security recipients are able to access the full breadth of their survivor benefits. The Congresswoman also advocated for increased funding for the Social Security Administration, and introduced legislation to bolster mental health services for seniors.
