Thursday Night Groove continues in Schwiebert Riverfront Park

Come enjoy free music by a favorite local band, For Those About to Yacht this Thursday, September 26. Rock Island Park concessions and Bent River Brewery open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and get ready to have some fun.

Banned Books Week

Celebrate the freedom to read this week during Banned Books Week at the Rock Island Public Library Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street. A "Read Out" will be held on Tuesday, September 24 beginning at 5:30 pm with refreshments, and continues with live public readings from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. of challenged or banned works. Attendees may come to read or just listen.

Help Rock Island celebrate a big anniversary

The 50th Anniversary of the Southwest Library Branch and Fire Station will be held Wednesday, September 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come to 9010 Ridgewood Road and enjoy cake, refreshments, activities, tours, a library scavenger hunt and firefighter story time.

Fill the Boot for a good cause

The Rock Island Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 26, will hold their annual "Fill the Boot" fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Look for firefighters at the intersection of 30th Street and 18th Avenue on Friday, October 4 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, October 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

City Open House

The first annual City Open House will be held on Saturday, October 5 from noon to 3 p.m. on 5th Avenue between 13th and 15th Streets. Get a firsthand look inside police and fire department vehicles, climb up inside one of the City's new snowplows and take behind-the-scenes tours of the police and fire stations. Come meet your elected and city officials while learning about what different city departments do.
