A Rogers State University alumna returned to the Hill last week, to share her insight and experience with students in RSU's nursing program.
RSU graduate and current forensic nurse administrator Kasey Magness spoke to senior nursing students in Mary Utsler's Community/Public Health class Thursday, Oct. 25.
During her presentation, Magness spoke about how she learned about forensics during her clinicals while she was in the RN2BSN program at Rogers State University, as well as sharing with students about her experiences in forensic nursing.
Magness earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rogers State University in 2013, after which, she continued her studies at the University of Oklahoma, from where she earned a master's degree in nursing administration.
Following her education, she worked as a paramedic for St. John's Medical Center, a Registered Nurse in the Saint Francis Health System, and as a forensic nurse at the Tulsa SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program, before she became the full-time forensic nurse administrator, both for the Tulsa Police Department.
"Kasey is an incredible nurse and role model for our students," said instructor Mary Utsler, MS, RN. "Having her come speak helps students see they have options for their career as an RN not just at the bedside but in the community."
A forensic nurse works at the intersection of nursing and the criminal justice system to provide nursing care to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Forensic nursing is a nursing specialty that combines nursing and forensic science to provide care to patients involved in legal cases.
Rogers State University's RN2BSN online nursing program offers students the chance to earn their BSN in a fully online format. Registered nurses who currently have an associate degree may compete their BSN in only three semesters.
The RN2BSN program provides nursing students with the means to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), but as an online course, gives students the flexibility to accommodate their busy schedule.
