The Hull Bus Alliance is encouraging those going to this week's Freedom Festival to make the journey by bus and take advantage of discounted travel.

With a packed programme of music, arts and culture, Freedom Festival has something for everyone and runs from Wednesday 28 August until Sunday 1 September.

Getting to events taking place at locations across the city centre couldn't be easier or more affordable thanks to Hull's extensive bus network - with services delivered by the region's two operators, East Yorkshire Buses and Stagecoach.

Most of these services are covered by the Government's fare cap, which means that a single journey doesn't cost any more than £2.

If travelling with family and friends, you can also take advantage of the Hull Card Group offer, a summer promotion funded by the Hull Bus Alliance through the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), that allows up to six people to travel for just £6.

The ticket can be purchased on any East Yorkshire or Stagecoach service and entitles you to unlimited travel for a full day on any of the two operators' buses.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: "Freedom Festival is one of the highlights of the year for Hull and we know that many people will be coming down over the coming days to enjoy the varied programme of events.

"The council, through the Hull Bus Alliance, is keen to promote the various fare discounts in place that make getting here by bus cheaper and more convenient and would encourage festival goers to consider choosing the bus as a more sustainable travel choice."

Matt Cranwell, managing director at Stagecoach East Midlands, said: "Freedom Festival is always such a fantastic experience, bringing music, arts and culture to Hull, for all ages.

"We're proud to be able to be an integral part of ensuring safe and great value travel into Hull to enjoy this event. Along with the Hull Group Card, we also have the £2 single fare initiative, thanks to Government funding, enabling anyone a maximum single payment of £2 for their single journey into Hull."

Service information to help plan your journey can be found on the websites of East Yorkshire Buses andStagecoach.
