FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 15, 2024
City of Pueblo Launches Expansion of Crime Fighting Initiative
The City of Pueblo Community Connect Program aims to provide greater safety and security in neighborhoods and businesses throughout the city.
Pueblo, CO- Pueblo Police Department Chief of Police Chris Noeller announced an expansion of the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) designed to improve the safety of the citizens of Pueblo and enable local businesses to thrive.
"The Pueblo Police Department is excited to launch the first phase of Community Connect, furthering our department's efforts to find innovative ways to partner with the community and fight crime," shared Chief Noeller. Community Connect is a program which will allow citizens and businesses to integrate their privately-owned cameras into the department's RTCC. The new program is a public-private community partnership that involves the Police Department, citizens, and local businesses, blending real-time crime-fighting and community policing with state-of-the art technology solutions from Genetec Inc.
"Decreased crime rates create safer, more welcoming spaces for citizens, visitors, and businesses alike and is key to the revitalization of the neighborhoods across our great city," adds Mayor Heather Graham. "Supporting our business community is one of my top priorities as mayor, and I am glad to see our Police Department continue to find new ways to address these issues."
Citizens and businesses can voluntarily opt-in to varying levels of program integration. Camera registration launches December 16 and is the first level which allows the RTCC to simply know their locations. Quality video footage of incidents has proven to be invaluable in responding to and solving crime. Providing a mechanism for the Pueblo Police Department to quickly request and receive video from citizens and businesses will result in increased efficiency and effectiveness. In the event an incident takes place, the RTCC will be able to send an email to registered camera owners in that area requesting video footage of the incident that may have been captured by their cameras. Cameras will not be continuously monitored by RTCC staff. The citizens and businesses will then be able to send the footage electronically to the RTCC for investigative use. Camera registration and additional information can be found at: https://www.pueblo.us/2998/City-of-Pueblo-Community-Connect-Program.
Phase Two of Community Connect, launching Spring of 2025, will include live video feed integration providing citizens and businesses with the ability to share live video feeds from their cameras directly with the RTCC.
