Wheaton Police Conducting Speed Enforcement Campaign in July

Throughout the month of July, the Wheaton Police Department will be partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois State Police to step up enforcement efforts across the state to reduce speeding. Motorists can expect to see increased patrols looking for speeding, as well as other traffic violations, during the month of July.

"Speed limits are there for a reason," said Wheaton Police Chief Princeton J. Youker. "Driving above the speed limit makes it increasingly difficult to respond to conditions you might face on the roads - whether it's a vehicle in front of you stopping suddenly, a hazard in the roadway, slick pavement, or someone changing lanes unexpectedly. Speeding can put you and others at a significant risk. This campaign is a proactive way to make travel safer by stopping those who choose to violate traffic laws."

During the speeding enforcement blitz, officers will increase enforcement of posted speed limits within the City of Wheaton. This will include roadways that experience the most speed violations, such as Harrison Avenue, Main Street, Leask Lane, and numerous other residential roadways. You can help make Wheaton's roads safer for everyone by watching your speed. We appreciate your assistance in keeping Wheaton a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

This enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
