Our Faith Calls Us to Never Give Up

Bridget Moix, general secretary of FCNL, and Amelia Kegan, associate general secretary of policy and advocacy, talked about what the 119th Congress and the future Trump administration will mean for our work for justice and peace.

Here is the prayer that opened our time together:

"May we pause to take a hard, honest look at ourselves, may we not waste our time claiming that what we are witnessing is not who we are, and instead collectively wonder what must be done if what we are witnessing truly is who we are, may be loudly name and negate the unchecked white supremacy and toxic masculinity that has been allowed to fester and rule for centuries, may we stop hemming and hawing about reaching across some fake aisle and instead pour our energy into creating undeniable hope for the most oppressed among us in the face of fascistic cynicism, and may we together recommit today to not denying the parts we have played in the problems but to reclaiming the parts we can play in the solutions with newly humble and vulnerable vigor. Amen."

You are needed! Our country needs your advocacy. Our communities need your organizing. FCNL and organizations like ours need your financial contributions. The stakes are too high to give in to inaction and despair.

We are all grappling in different ways over last Tuesday's election results. Our work is now much harder, but also incredibly more important. Our response should not be to get overwhelmed or disengage.

Our faith is not one of despair. It is a faith of hope. It is through community and connection that we get through the darkest and most difficult times.

The coming months will require a lot from Friends, people of faith, and people of conscience across the country. That's what we're asking today. We need to come together to connect with and build existing networks and initiatives to strengthen our movement. We can set ourselves up to advance the World We Seek -not now but for generations to come.
