PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Oct. 2, 2024) - Prairie View A&M University is proud to announce the induction of distinguished alumni Ernest and Floretta Collins '66 into the 2024 National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame. This honor celebrates their exceptional contributions to community service, agriculture, education, and youth development, highlighting their dedication to positively impacting the PVAMU community and beyond.

The Hall of Fame recognizes a stellar class of inductees from HBCUs across the nation, each representing a range of fields and leaving a lasting mark through their achievements. As passionate community advocates, Ernest and Floretta Collins exemplify the spirit of service and commitment that Prairie View A&M instills in its graduates.

Since their graduation in 1966, the Collins have dedicated their lives to uplifting their community. They have established a legacy of philanthropy and community engagement, significantly impacting the University. Through their generous contributions, they have raised over half a million dollars for the University by hosting annual events at their 800-acre ranch. These efforts have fostered the establishment of endowed scholarships at PVAMU, further supporting students in their academic pursuits.

Their commitment to education extends beyond financial contributions. The couple opens their ranch for student tours, providing hands-on experiences that inspire and prepare the next generation for careers in agriculture and related fields. By connecting students with representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Conservation Services, they create invaluable networking opportunities, helping students envision their futures.

Their individual accomplishments are equally impressive. Ernest, known affectionately as Ernie, graduated from PVAMU with a degree in business administration and enjoyed a successful career in the U.S. Army and at ExxonMobil. Floretta earned her degree from PVAMU in elementary education, and taught school for 39 years in Houston, Dallas, California and Colorado. Together, they have been active leaders in their community, with Ernie serving on various boards and Floretta founding a local chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

The Collins have received numerous honors, including induction into the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame, recognition as Lifetime Directors of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the naming of the Ernest Boyd and Floretta Collins Auditorium at PVAMU.

As lifetime members of the Prairie View A&M National Alumni Association, Ernest and Floretta Collins continue to embody the values of service and excellence that define Prairie View A&M University.
