Today, 65 young researchers from the University of Barcelona and the Downing College CambridgeMCR shared their lines of research at the "Building bridges!" conference, which took place in Aula Joan Maragall at the UB's Faculty of Philology and Communication. The initiative was organized jointly by the UB and Downing CollegeMCR, one of the colleges of the University of Cambridge, with the aim of promoting collaboration between research staff in training at both institutions.

The Rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, the Vice-Rector for Doctoral Studies, Trainee Research Staff and Talent Attraction, Maria Feliu, and the Vice-Rector for Research, Jordi Garcia, welcomed all the students taking part in the conference. Guàrdia said that completing a doctoral thesis and doctorate means "the answer to some questions raised in the research, but also the appearance of new doubts and questions". "That is why conferences like today's are so important when it comes to sharing a passion for science and working together", concluded the rector.

There will be 12 oral presentations and 24 poster presentations. The participants, who come from several geographical and knowledge areas, will briefly present their research interests to generate possible synergies with researchers from the other institution. The impact of straw burning on air quality in China, the evolution of toxin resistance in rodents, the dialogic process in the development of masculinity in public spaces or the application of nanomedicine in neurodegenerative diseases are some topics to be presented.

Gerard Esteruelas, president of the Board of the UB's Council of Doctoral Students Representatives and one of the organizers of the event, gave a positive assessment of the day: "We have experienced a magical day that has allowed us to create new links and learn about the multidisciplinary research carried out by other doctoral students from two major universities that are members of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), in a relaxed atmosphere, and we have all benefited greatly, both personally and professionally".
