City to mitigate erosion impacts at Queen's Beach in Kapi'olani Park

HONOLULU - The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is notifying the public about the installation of sandbags in front of a 100-foot section of the damaged seawall at Queen's Beach, adjacent to Barefoot Beach Café in Kapi'olani Park, beginning Thursday, August 22, and ending on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Work on those days is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The installation of sandbags is designed to mitigate the release of sediment into nearshore waters.

The contractor, Sea Engineering Inc., is also engaged to provide the City with a repair plan for the seawall and damaged walkway. Once the necessary permits are approved, repair work is expected to begin.

Access to the affected area will be restricted during the next two days. Public health and safety remain a top priority, and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area. Safety personnel will monitor the construction activity.

The City appreciates the patience of the community during this process. Questions and comments may be directed to the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Design and Construction, at (808) 768-8400.
