At 1:38 PM, on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested a 13-year-old juvenile male for firearm related offenses after responding to a person with a gun radio call at 197 Centre St., Dorchester.
Officers received a radio call from the Neighborhood Charter School at 197 Centre St. stating that students observed a person with a gun after they were approached and questioned by two juvenile males in a vehicle. A description of both males and their vehicle was provided to Officers and a query revealed that the described vehicle was reported as stolen.
Officers responded to the area and observed the described vehicle parked on Cheverus St. As Officers approached the vehicle they observed one of the juveniles exit the vehicle while the other remained in the driver's seat.
Both parties appeared to be hypervigilant and scanning for potential means of escape. Due to these observations, Officers requested additional units to the scene and instructed both males to sit on the ground. Additional Officers responded and assisted in detaining both individuals. Officers approached the juvenile who was previously in the driver's seat and instructed him to place his hands behind his back at which point he took off in full sprint.
Officers proceeded to pursue the male as he ran behind a house on Cheverus Street. During the pursuit, Officers observed him grabbing his waistband. Officers continued to pursue the suspect behind 33 Cheverus who attempted to gain access to the rear of 29 Cheverus where he was met by a locked gate. At this time Officers were closing in on the juvenile, when they observed him reach into his pants and throw an object over a backyard fence right before Officers were able to take him into custody.
While canvassing the area, Officers observed a silver and black firearm in the rear of 31-33 Cheverus Street in a pile of leaves. The firearm was processed on scene by Detectives and later determined to be a Smith and Wesson SD40VE .40 Caliber (no serial #) with ten (10) rounds of ammunition in the magazine. The firearm's slide was silver with a black lower receiver.
The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen and was towed from the scene.
The 13-year-old juvenile was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for the charges of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Trespassing.
