Crowther Statue Update

The planning permit for the Crowther statue has not "substantially commenced" since the statue was illegally removed by unknown persons, not by a deliberate act of the Council.

As a result, the detailed requirements of the permit are not currently required to be met.

However, the damaged statue and temporary box cannot remain as a permanent solution without further planning permission, which is unlikely to be granted given the conditions attached to the permit.

The Hobart City Council has endorsed the removal of the Crowther statue and installation of temporary signage.

Once the remaining part of the statue is removed, it will be repaired and restored by qualified experts to comply fully with the permit conditions.

Proposed Delegation - TasWater Self Point Treatment Plan

TasWater has applied for planning approval to upgrade its sewerage treatment plant at Selfs Point.

Part of the land requiring a permit is Council land, which typically means the application would go to the Planning Committee.

However, given the nature of the project, the Council has decided to delegate the decision to the Acting Director City Life.

Code of Conduct Determination - (then) Cr Helen Burnet v Cr Louise Elliot

A Code of Conduct Determination panel has found Cr Louise Elliot breached two parts of the code and dismissed another complaint brought by (then) Cr Helen Burnet regarding Cr Elliot's social media use.

The panel has determined to impose a caution on Cr Elliot.

The report was noted by Hobart City Council.

Halls Saddle Notice of Motion - Cr Zelinda Sherlock and Cr Ben Lohberger

The Hobart City Council has requested the Halls Saddle site (Chimney Pot Hill Road, Ridgeway) be included in the proposed State Government Strategic Review of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, despite its location outside the current Wellington Park boundary.

The Council agrees that the site should be considered for value-adding uses or infrastructure, such as a transport or visitor hub, as part of its ongoing review of kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

Furthermore, the Council requests the CEO to organize in collaboration with the Department of State Growth an open day at Halls Saddle to showcase its size, location, and potential value for kunanyi/Mt Wellington to the broader public.

The Hobart City Council affirms its sincere appreciation for the professionalism and capability of staff who serve the Hobart community.

The Council recognises that City officers diligently implement strategic decisions endorsed by elected members, ensuring that projects reflect these actions.

Moreover, the Council condemns any commentary or debate that brings disrepute to the city, targets City Officers, or engages in offensive or harassing behaviour.

Additionally, the Council commits to collaborating with the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) and other councils to ensure consistency and collaboration, to discuss the best way to integrate and develop a community awareness campaign that looks to address poor behaviour and conduct towards both elected members and council staff.
