Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program at Briar Cliff University Resets Tuition Rates

August 20, 2024

Following the enrollment of the inaugural class in June 2023 for Briar Cliff University's Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, the Board of Trustees recently approved a tuition reset. Additionally, the program has achieved candidacy status for accreditation and is on track to receive full accreditation by December 2025.

The new tuition, set at $9,444 per term, or $85k for the entire three-year program, makes the program one of the most affordable in the region for private, non-profit universities. In addition, students will have no unexpected tuition increases during their time at BCU.

"Our OTD program prepares students to excel in the dynamic field of occupational therapy through a rigorous curriculum and hands-on clinical experience," said Dr. Cortni Krusemark, Founding Director of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program at Briar Cliff University. "We focus on the holistic experience of both our students and future patients by living the mission of our program, where we embody the Briar Cliff's Catholic Franciscan values and provide an interprofessional, occupation-centered, and community-conscious education through an inclusive, learner-centered culture."

Despite its affordability, the program maintains exceptional quality and offers numerous opportunities for professional development. The cohort size is intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 26 students, ensuring personalized attention and a collaborative learning environment. Student experiences include hands-on training in the nationally recognized student-run Briar Cliff Clinic. The clinic provides free physical therapy rehab services to uninsured or underinsured and community-based outreach to underserved groups and populations.

"Pursuing a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree provides students with an opportunity for advanced professional development and leadership," adds Krusemark. "Doctoral programs offer a more comprehensive and in-depth approach to the field. We prepare graduates with evidence-based practices and research and equip them to contribute to the advancement of the field. There's a focus on interprofessional collaboration, occupational therapy theory, and community-based practices."

Applications for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program opened July 21, 2024.
