LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today issued the following statement:

"I have known Council President Paul Krekorian since we served together in the California State Assembly. At that time, we passed the first film and tax credit to keep film and TV production in Los Angeles, and we navigated one of the greatest economic threats to our state since the Great Depression.

"It was that service - driven by a dedication to the constituents who he represented - that made me so excited to work together again, this time in a new and different capacity.

"Over the last year and half, we've locked arms and shown that so much more can get done if we choose to work together instead of apart - and the results speak for themselves. We're turning the tide on the homelessness crisis, leading to the first decrease in homelessness in years. We've changed the way City Hall supports restaurants and small businesses with more resources and support. We've paved the way to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in a way that create jobs as we prepare and benefits for Angelenos in the decades after the final medal is awarded. Together, we brought real change to Los Angeles.

"President Krekorian assumed the Council Presidency during one of the most tumultuous times in LA.'s civic history - but his unshakeable resolve and clear vision for the future turned chaos into progress and moved the people's business forward. He will be remembered as one of the most consequential leaders and public servants that the City of Los Angeles has ever known - not just for his leadership as Council President, but for his work as Assemblymember, as Councilman, and for the work I know he will continue to do in the coming months and years.

"On behalf of Los Angeles, thank you Council President Krekorian for your outstanding contributions to Los Angeles and thank you for all you will continue to do."
