Eighth Street is reopened, and it's time to party

Celebrate the reopening of Eighth Street and support surrounding businesses at an Unblocking Party, sponsored by Downtown Fort Worth Inc., from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25.

The street between Throckmorton and Houston streets, has been closed since January, when an explosion rocked the nearby Sandman Hotel.

All the swag: Partiers will receive a free Downtown T-shirt, while supplies last. The first 100 La'Creamian ice cream scoops are free, courtesy of The Sandman Signature Hotel. A musical duo will provide tunes.

Big bonus: Join the street party and enter to win an Eighth Street package, including two Downtown Cowtown Segway tours, a $50 gift card to The Archibald, a $50 gift card to Thompson's, a Barber's Bookstore book package and a Dalton's Hair Salon package.

Some background: The businesses located on Eighth Street between Throckmorton and Houston streets, on the south side of the hotel, were impacted by the explosion and its aftermath. The City's Economic Development Department worked with the Local Development Corporation to provide more than $137,000 in grants to four small businesses located in the immediate vicinity of the explosion, to help supplement loss of revenue as cleanup efforts continued.
