IDC Study Finds Samsara Provides Significant Business Value to Customers

Everyday at Samsara, we hear storiesabout how our Connected Operations platform helps organizations become safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. As a data-driven company, we also strive to understand the metrics behind the results we help deliver for our customers.

With this in mind, we recently commissioned IDC to conduct a study to uncover the impact that Samsara Vehicle Telematics and Video-Based Safety solutions have on an organization's ability to run and manage their vehicle fleets. The results were published in the IDC Business Value White Paper, sponsored by Samsara, The Business Value of Samsara (#US52102724, June 2024).

IDC surveyed 130 Samsara customers across a range of industries and company sizes, and supplemented their findings with in-depth interviews with three customers. Based on their research, IDC calculates that Samsara customers can realize average benefits worth $2.02 million per organization per year, which equals an average 815% return on investment (ROI).

According to IDC, Samsara Vehicle Telematics and Video-Based Safety can deliver benefits in a variety of different areas, including fuel savings, improved asset utilization, crash and insurance-related cost reduction, lower maintenance costs, and increased driver productivity. Specifically, IDC found that Samsara customers experience:

  • 14% less vehicle time spent idling

  • 4% lower fuel costs

  • 9% lower vehicle maintenance costs

  • 10% longer vehicle life span

Overall, Samsara customers see a 6% lower overall cost of operating a vehicle fleet.

Beyond ROI, the IDC study also highlights how Samara has become a critical solution for their operations. According to one customer interviewed for the white paper: "It is hard to put a number on the value of Samsara, but it has opened up a whole new world for us. When we are talking about services in the tens of thousands of dollars per hour per crew, every minute of efficiency gained is significant.
