"LITERACY FOR LIFE: SHAPING FUTURE AGENDAS" RESOLUTION ADOPTED AT MONGOLIA'S INITIATIVE

On 11 November 2024, at Mongolia's initiative, "Literacy for life: shaping future agendas" resolution has been adopted at the Third Committee of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

This time the resolution has been updated with new substantive changes such as underlining importance of recovering from a learning loss and addressing negative impact of COVID-19 pandemic including on learners' socio-emotional skills, recognizing literacy as an integral part of lifelong learning as a continuum of proficiency in reading, writing and numeracy including digital skills that are developed throughout life and across different life and work contexts, and re-emphasizing the critical role of teachers and educators in lifelong learning.

The resolution further recalled the commitment to substantially expand globally the number of scholarships available to developing countries, for enrolment in higher education, including vocational training and information and communications technology, technical, engineering and scientific programmes, called upon Member States to continue to increase investment in inclusive and equitable quality education for all allowing for the intergenerational acquisition and transfer of knowledge and skills to advance the prospects of future generations as stated in the Pact of the Future.

"Literacy for life: shaping future agendas" resolution has been co-sponsored by 125 countries representing all regions of the world.
